Mother's Day 2013

Rusty made me french toast, bacon & orange juice for breakfast.  I called my mom before church because I didn't know the timeline for Ethan's call home.
Benjamin had a "moment" at church--Emmalee had "the" crayon that he needed so he was having a fit--and so he missed seeing the bread come down the row.  He usually goes to the end of the row so he can carry the bread down the row for everyone.  So we had to take him out.  He finally calmed down in time for class.

For dinner after church, Rusty grilled hamburgers, Brienna cut up the fixings, and I made my salsa.  Then Ethan called around 3:30 pm & we were able to talk for almost 2 hours!  It was so wonderful to hear his voice again.  Benjamin loved talking to him & being silly.
This is the card Ethan gave me.
I laughed so much!  I love this because it is so true!
Here is a picture of all my Mother's Day goodies--coupons from Ben, lotion from Emmalee, cards & homemade flowers--can't get any better.
And here is the card from the rest of the kids.
I have to admit--my life is always fun & exciting.  Never a dull moment around here!  It was a wonderful day.  11 1/2 weeks (80 days) until I get to talk to Ethan in person!  CRAZY!

ATV Safety Class

Saturday morning was the Preparedness Fair at the community building.  The kids going to the summer basketball camp were asked to help run the concessions there & to donate baked goods.  So I brought cookies.  I also was one of 2 parents asked to help be in charge so I decided to stay the whole time (10-2). I also made the popcorn (& donated the popcorn)--first time using the machine (even though I have helped with concessions tons of times, I've never had to make the popcorn).

I was glad I stayed the whole time because I ended up winning one of the door prizes--a hand-crank radio/flashlight & a first aid kit.

I got home and ate a quick lunch & since Rusty was still at the school, I drove Zane to the ATV safety class (on Grandpa's 4-wheeler) & Pamela dropped Callum off.
Callum ended up using one of Bart May's 4-wheelers (our sheriff) since everyone needed a 4-wheeler to run the course since it takes about 3 hours.
This is Callumm on the course (white shirt)
It looked like a ton of fun.
Zane is on the red 4-wheeler.
All the kids passed and had a lot of fun.  By passing, this allows the kids to ride on Forest Service & BLM roads along with the rodeo grounds & clay pits here.

So in-between all this, I was asked to take a meal into a sister that just got back from the hospital.  So thankfully Pamela made noodle casserole for us & her.  And they had to deliver it before I got home from the class.

After dinner, we saw that our neighbor's horses were out so I called the sheriff's office to let them know (the neighbor's phone # wouldn't work).  So that was a bit of entertainment.  Then the kids had their baths & we watched "Rise of the Guardians".  It was a cute movie. So cute the kids watched it again on Sunday.

Activity Day--Mother's Day projects

We haven't had an active Activity Day leader for almost a year so I decided I had better do a couple of activities with the girls.  A couple of weeks ago we met and had a "getting-to-know-you" activity and decorated cupcakes to give away.
So Friday morning we had a Mother's Day activity--we had 7 girls there.  We started with making lip gloss.
We had to put the lip gloss in the fridge to cool & harden so then we turned to making paper flowers &
 flower magnets.
Here are a few of the flowers that they did.
After the flowers, we made a hand cream.  The girls got to decorate 2 small containers to put their hand cream into.
We also had popcorn & punch while were we working on the different project.
The girls all had a lot of fun.  Each girl had at least 2 containers of lip gloss & 2 of the hand cream.
I was just grateful that Brienna was there to help me.  I probably could have done it on my own if we had only done either the lip gloss OR the hand cream--but doing both would have been a challenge by myself.
Here is a picture of some of the "extra" lip gloss & hand creams.  We made a strawberry/watermelon gloss and also a rootbeer one.  The hand creme is a combination of a few lotions, vaseline & vit. E cream.
I just hope I get a leader soon--I'm not sure when the next time I can meet with the girls.  It seems like this month is packed full!

Friday afternoon I did some laundry, took the kids to the store, baked cookies for the bake sale, and cleaned a bit.  Rusty was at the school for so long that we ended up having toast & burritos for dinner.
